Re “State economy still waiting for recovery, 1/8/10″:

States that strive to maintain the economic status quo – as Michigan did for decades with its auto business – end up failing to compete economically. But then Walters falls into that same trap when he bemoans the fact that a longtime California aerospace company is moving 1 percent of its employees to be closer to its customers while failing to mention the exciting growth of newer California companies such as Facebook and others.

Newspapermen should know better than anyone, standing still is a recipe for failure. This is why economic policy must be about creating robust environments for economic growth without picking winners or holding on to the past.
